The activity is organized by the National Amil Zakat Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BAZNAS RI), which is held every year in the framework of the 21st BAZNAS Anniversary, with the theme Becoming the Main Institution for the Welfare of the Ummah. The standard of assessment in giving the award uses the National Zakat Index (IZN) and also quantitative and qualitative assessments.

Prof. Gunawan Suryoputro, as the Chancellor of Uhamka, contacted the media crew, said that Uhamka has a vision of bringing up a prophetic teaching university in 2024 and should be involved in developing prophetic values, one of which is literacy in zakat.

"Alhamdulillah, I thank all parties within Uhamka, the lecturers who have increased their research and service, including about zakat literacy. We (Uhamka) were allowed to get the 2022 BAZNAS AWARD in the Category of Zakat Literacy Supporting Educational Institutions. Uhamka has three main values, one of which is Compassion. Uhamka is built with a caring spirit; both lecturers, employees, and students must have a sense of always caring, said Gunawan.

As the best Islamic university in Indonesia owned by Muhammadiyah, Uhamka provides literacy and direct practice through the institutions it owns.

Through Lazismu, Uhamka collects zakat, infaq, and sadaqah, which have reached billions of rupiah. Then through the Institute for Study and Development of Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (LPP AIK), Uhamka has a special program integrated with teaching. Every year, thousands of students run special programs to help Dhu’afa in Jabodetabek. Thousands of students collected billions of rupiahs and distributed them to those in need.

Through the Laboratory of Social Entrepreneurship and Islamic Philanthropy (LKSFI), Uhamka actively conducts business studies with the philanthropic movement in collaboration with Indonesian philanthropy and is officially registered as a venture philanthropic institution at the United Nations through the PRME organization.

Moreover, through the Community Service Institution, Uhamka continuously budgets funds for lecturers to carry out their duties through community service and special programs in handling Covid-19.

Gunawan also congratulated BAZNAS for 21 years of working to ensure that Indonesian zakat is beneficial for the people of Indonesia.

"Hopefully, this zakat management activity will continue to stand firmly for the welfare of humanity on earth, especially in Indonesia. Once again, I thank you for this precious opportunity for Uhamka," said Gunawan.
